Paul Blackwell

I'm a producer and guitarist based in Brooklyn and have been making records for 15 years.

I love being immersed in sound and the feel of a take coming together around me. I tend to get a bit obsessive, and my favorite project is always the one I'm working on.

When it comes to making records, I want to be involved in each song as early as possible - from writing and demoing, to tracking and overdubbing, through mixing and mastering. I have an ear for melody, harmony, and arrangement, and will always help in the creative process when my ideas are welcome or needed. I will always give an honest opinion when asked. I love recording to analog tape whenever possible, whether it's on a 2" machine at Studio G or on a cassette tape on my Tascam Portastudio.

Here are some feely thoughts I have about music and making recordings:

Intention can be conveyed through sound.

The perfect order of words does exist.

Sound has texture, color, depth.

Often the most interesting things happen at edges, whether concrete or abstract.
